Supplies aerated nutrient solution
Plants with a strong root system are stabilized with a capillary mat and are fed a continually aerated nutrient solution in a channel system that re-circulates with a holding reservoir.
Irrigation is typically continual for 24-hours
Has lost popularity for large scale growers (except for lettuce production), due to the fear of quick spread of diseases in the recirculating solution
Now an inert media (ex. Rockwool) is preferred
